Who is responsible?

OpenSECURE, the business of Eelke Smit in Ede, the Netherlands, is responsible for the processing described in this statement. Dutch Chamber of Commerce registration: 74187392.

For privacy questions: hello@opensecure.nl or +31 (0)6 837 039 45.

When you get in touch

When you email, call or message me, I process the information you choose to share. This can include your name, business contact details, organisation and the content of your question. I use it to respond, arrange discussions and prepare or carry out a potential engagement.

The legal basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract, or performing that contract. For general correspondence, it is the legitimate interest in handling your question appropriately. Do not share passwords, private keys or unnecessary sensitive information through the contact channels.

Visiting the website

To deliver and secure the website, the hosting environment processes technical information such as your IP address, the requested address, the time and browser information. This serves the legitimate interest in operating a secure website and investigating faults or misuse.

The website provides separate Dutch and English pages. Use the language selector to open your preferred version; the blog is available in English only. The website does not request your precise location. Commands entered into the demonstration terminal are handled locally in your browser.

Preferences, cookies and local storage

This website does not use advertising or analytics trackers. Your manual language choice and colour mode are saved as functional preferences in your browser's local storage. These values are not used to track you across websites and are not sent to OpenSECURE as a visitor profile.

Your preferences remain until you change them or clear the website data in your browser. The hosting environment may also use technically necessary cookies for security or access to the website. The site does not use profiling or automated decisions with legal effects.

Service providers and external links

Hosting and email service providers process data as needed to operate the website and communication services. Where they process personal data on behalf of OpenSECURE, arrangements for protecting it are required. Processing outside the European Economic Area is subject to the GDPR's international transfer conditions.

Links to WhatsApp, Telegram, LinkedIn, GitHub and Credly take you to an external service. When you open or use that service, the provider's privacy terms also apply. OpenSECURE does not sell your personal data.

How long is data kept?

Contact details and correspondence are retained to handle your enquiry and any follow-up. For an engagement, relevant information is retained during the working relationship and for as long as it is subsequently needed for administration, legal obligations or handling claims. Technical information is used for as long as needed for hosting delivery, security and fault investigation.

Data is not kept longer than needed for these purposes. You can remove browser preferences yourself by clearing the website data in your browser.

Your rights

Depending on the processing, you can request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of your personal data. You can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw it.

Email your request to hello@opensecure.nl. I may ask for information to verify your identity and will normally respond within one month. If more time is needed, you will be informed. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Changes and security

The website uses HTTPS. Access to personal data should be limited to what is needed for the relevant purpose. This statement is updated when the website or the processing described here changes. The date at the top shows when the text was last updated.
